(San Francisco, January 15, 2004) -
Today FICSA and FAFICS, the two largest UN employee associations,
announced that they would be including the issue of socially
and environmentally responsible investing to their respective
annual meeting agendas at the recent request of UN Observer.org.
Richard Kerby, President of FICSA and George Saddler, President of FAFICS confirmed by email that their organizations would be including the issue at their upcoming annual meetings to be held respectively in February and July 2004.
“We are very encouraged by the reaction of FICSA and FAFICS on this critical issue,” said Bruno Schneider, Executive Director of UN Observer.org. “Their support is critical to the success of our campaign to promote socially and environmentally responsible investing by the $21 billion UN pension fund.”
FICSA the Federation of International Civil Servants’ Associations was created in 1952 to protect the rights of the staff of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, funds and programs. It is a federated group of 27 staff associations and unions from organizations belonging to the United Nations common system.
FAFICS, the Federation of Associations of Former International Civil Servants, is a Federation of 21 member associations of organizations and agencies of the United Nations System. The Federation was established twenty-five years ago, has offices at the UN Headquarters in New York and in Geneva and currently has over 47,000 members.
