The standards and principles used by UN Observer.org include:

The International Bill of Rights includes:
  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
  • International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and its two Optional Protocols (on the Human Rights Committee I and Abolition of the Death Penalty II)
  • International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)

Major UN conventions include:
  • Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide (CPPG)
  • Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)

  • ILO 111 on Discrimination (Employment and Occupation)
  • ILO 122 on Employment Policies
  • ILO 138 on Minimum Age for Admission to Employment
  • ILO 182 on Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labor


Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS): the United Nations office in charge of monitoring and investigating deficiencies and violations. Its mandate is to help UN bodies in bringing about "responsible administration of resources" within "a culture of accountability and transparency and improved program performance". It produced a short pamphlet about its functions and activities.
