Procurement

Inter-Agency Procurement Services Office (UN IAPSO): handles minimum standards for supplier contracts. Also provides statistical information on UN procurement as well as general conditions for procurement contracts. It also provides a link to specific agency requirements for bidding.

UNEP Sustainable Procurement has a good description of socially and environmentally responsible procurement and discusses the actions of its working group on the issue.

Business for Social Responsibility (BSR): has published many papers dealing with the issue of procurement that address both social and environmental aspects of the issue. Examples of such papers include:

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), based in Switzerland, also publishes numerous studies on this issue.

Strengthening the Implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility in Global Supply Chains. published by the World Bank in in October 2003.

Starbucks Coffee has recently introduced a Supplier Code of Conduct that illustrates some of the recent for-profit efforts in this area.
